Before you publish this
These terms are drafted to match how Imbew is intended to work, but they are not legal advice and have not been reviewed by a lawyer. Complete every highlighted placeholder and get a qualified practitioner to review before launch — especially the liability, refund, and governing-law clauses, which vary significantly by jurisdiction and are the ones that matter when something goes wrong.
The short version
Not a substitute for the terms below, but here's the substance in plain sentences:
- What you write belongs to you. We get only the permission we need to run the service for you. If you leave, you take it with you.
- Don't paste in whole chapters of books. Write your own interpretations. That's the entire point of the product and it's also how we both stay out of trouble.
- Cancel any time, from settings, in one click. No phone call, no email, no retention screen.
- Imbew is a tool, not a therapist, doctor, or coach. It won't fix your life and we don't promise it will.
- We're a small operation. Things will occasionally break. We'll tell you when they do.
01The agreement
These Terms form a binding agreement between you and [LEGAL ENTITY NAME] ("Imbew", "we", "us"), registered at [REGISTERED ADDRESS], governing your use of the Imbew website, application, and related services (the "Service").
By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
02Who can use it
You must be at least 16 years old to use Imbew. If you're under 18, you confirm that a parent or guardian is aware of and consents to your use.
You must not be barred from receiving services under the laws of your country or ours, and you must not have been previously removed from the Service.
03Your account
- Accounts are personal. Don't share one, and don't let someone else use yours.
- We use magic-link sign-in, so your email inbox is effectively your password. Keep it secure — anyone with access to it can access your account.
- Give us an accurate email address and keep it current. It's how we reach you about the Service, and it's how you get back in.
- Tell us promptly at hello@imbew.com if you think someone has accessed your account.
- You're responsible for activity under your account, except to the extent it results from our own failure.
04What you write
You own it
You retain all rights to the interpretations, reflections, notes, and other content you create in Imbew ("Your Content"). We claim no ownership of it whatsoever.
The permission you give us
To operate the Service, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, back up, transmit, and display Your Content solely for the purpose of providing the Service to you. That includes processing it through the AI features described in our Privacy Policy, if you have those enabled.
This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies in routine backups, which are purged within 30 days.
What this licence is not
It is not permission to publish, sell, license, or exploit your writing. We will not use Your Content in marketing, in training data, in a public library, or in anything shown to an author or another user, unless you take a specific action to share that specific thing. Sharing is always opt-in and always reversible.
If you choose to share
Where you deliberately share an interpretation — with an author, another user, or publicly — you grant us and the recipients a licence to display it for that purpose, and you allow other users to save it to their own collection. You can unshare at any time; we'll remove it from view going forward, but we can't retrieve copies others have already saved.
Your responsibility for it
You confirm you have the right to post what you post, and that it doesn't infringe anyone else's rights or break any law.
05Books and copyright
Imbew exists so you can record your own understanding of what you read. This section explains the line.
Please do
- Write your own interpretation, in your own words, of what a chapter meant to you.
- Record book titles, author names, and chapter references. Referring to a work is not infringement.
- Quote a short passage where it genuinely helps — a sentence, with attribution.
Please don't
- Paste in substantial portions of a book's text, or reproduce a chapter.
- Build and share a set of cards that functions as a substitute for buying the book.
- Upload scans, pirated copies, or files you don't have the right to.
We may remove content that appears to infringe copyright, and we will terminate accounts of repeat infringers. If you believe something on Imbew infringes your copyright, write to legal@imbew.com with a description of the work, the location of the material, your contact details, and a statement that you believe the use is unauthorised. We respond to valid notices promptly, and to counter-notices fairly.
Book titles, author names, and cover images referenced in the Service remain the property of their respective owners. Their appearance does not imply any endorsement or affiliation, except where an author has explicitly partnered with us under §10.
06Acceptable use
Don't use Imbew to:
- Break the law, or help anyone else do so.
- Harass, threaten, defame, or abuse anyone, in shared content or anywhere else.
- Post content that is hateful, sexually explicit, or that sexualises minors in any way.
- Scrape, crawl, or bulk-extract content, or use automated systems against the Service beyond ordinary use.
- Attempt to breach security, probe for vulnerabilities without permission, or interfere with anyone else's use.
- Reverse engineer the Service, or use it to build a competing product.
- Impersonate anyone, including an author, or misrepresent an affiliation.
- Resell or sublicense access.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach this section. Where the breach is minor and unintentional, we'll tell you and give you a chance to fix it first.
If you find a security vulnerability, please tell us at security@imbew.com rather than exploiting it. We won't pursue legal action against good-faith research that respects user privacy and doesn't degrade the service.
07Plans and billing
| Plan | Terms |
| Free | Free, indefinitely. Limited to one active goal. We may change free-tier limits with 30 days' notice. |
| Imbew | [$8]/month or [$60]/year, billed in advance, renewing automatically until cancelled. |
| Trial | 30 days of full access. No card required to start. At the end you drop to Free unless you choose to subscribe — you will never be charged automatically at the end of a trial. |
Cancelling
Cancel from your settings in one click, at any time. No email, no phone call, no "are you sure" gauntlet, no offer we hope you'll accept out of exhaustion. You keep paid access until the end of the period you've already paid for, then move to Free. Your content stays.
Price changes
We may change prices, but we will email you at least 30 days before any change affects you, and existing subscribers keep their current price for at least 12 months from the date they subscribed. If you don't like a new price, cancel before it takes effect.
Taxes
Prices are exclusive of VAT, GST, sales tax, and similar, which are added where applicable based on your billing country.
Failed payments
If a payment fails we'll retry over several days and email you. If it still fails, the subscription moves to Free. We don't delete your content for non-payment.
08Founding membership
The first 100 founding members pay [$49] once, in exchange for access to the paid tier for as long as the Service operates. Specifically:
- There is no recurring charge, and no future price increase applies to you.
- It covers the paid features as they exist and as they reasonably evolve. If we ever build something genuinely separate — an enterprise product, say — it may not be included, and we'll be straight with you about that.
- It is personal, non-transferable, and tied to your account.
- "Lifetime" means the lifetime of the Service, not yours. If Imbew shuts down, founding membership ends with it. We'd rather say that now than have it be a surprise. See §16 for what happens to your data in that event.
09Refunds
- Monthly: email us within 14 days of a charge and we'll refund it. No explanation required.
- Annual: full refund within 30 days of the charge; after that, a pro-rata refund for complete unused months at our discretion.
- Founding membership: refundable within 30 days of purchase.
- If you're in the EU or UK, your statutory right to cancel a distance contract within 14 days applies in addition to the above and is not limited by it.
Refund requests go to hello@imbew.com. We aim to process within five working days.
10Author and partner programme
Authors, creators, and organisations may use Imbew to offer a branded companion to their own work, under a separate agreement. If you're a reader who joined through such a link:
- Your relationship for the Service itself is with us, on these Terms.
- The author sees only what §6 of our Privacy Policy describes — aggregate figures by default, and your individual writing only where you've explicitly shared it.
- If you consented to share your email with the author, they become independently responsible for it and their own privacy policy governs. Unsubscribing from them doesn't affect your Imbew account.
- We are not responsible for an author's own products, claims, or conduct outside the Service.
If you're an author: partner terms, permitted uses of reader data, and the prohibition on attempting to identify individual readers from aggregate data are set out in the partner agreement. Attempting to re-identify readers is grounds for immediate termination.
11Early access
Imbew is in early access. That means:
- Features will change, and some will be removed. We'll give notice before removing anything you're actively relying on.
- There will be bugs and occasional downtime. We don't offer an uptime guarantee at this stage.
- We may contact you for feedback. You're free to ignore us.
- If you send us a suggestion, we may use it without obligation or payment. You keep any rights you have in it; you're just not charging us for the idea.
12Our intellectual property
The Service — its software, design, interface, name, logo, and written material — belongs to us or our licensors and is protected by intellectual property law. These Terms grant you a limited, personal, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Service for its intended purpose. Nothing more is granted by implication.
13No professional advice
Please read this one properly
Imbew is a tool for remembering and applying ideas from books. It is not a mental health service, medical device, therapy, coaching, financial advice, or legal advice, and nothing in it should be treated as such.
Content you encounter — including your own writing and anything shared by other users or authors — is not professional guidance. Imbew does not monitor for signs of distress and there is no clinician on the other end.
If you are struggling with your mental or physical health, please speak with a qualified professional or someone you trust. If you are in crisis, contact your local emergency services or a crisis line in your country.
14Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure; that any defect will be corrected; that spaced repetition will produce any particular result for you; or that using Imbew will cause you to change any behaviour. Whether you apply what you read is up to you. We are a reminder, not an outcome.
Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud. If you're a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected.
15Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, revenue, goodwill, or data, however caused.
Our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the Service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) [USD 100].
You are responsible for keeping your own copies of anything important. Export is available at any time from your settings, and we recommend using it.
16Ending things
By you
Delete your account from settings at any time. Content is removed from the live service immediately and purged from backups within 30 days. Export first if you want to keep it.
By us
We may suspend or terminate your account if you materially breach these Terms, if required by law, or if we reasonably believe it's necessary to protect other users. Except where the breach is serious or legally compels immediate action, we'll give notice and a reasonable chance to put it right. Where we terminate without cause, we'll refund any unused prepaid period.
If Imbew shuts down
We commit to giving at least 60 days' notice before discontinuing the Service, keeping export available throughout that period, and refunding any unused prepaid subscription time on a pro-rata basis. Founding members will be treated fairly and told exactly where they stand.
17Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of [INDIA], without regard to conflict-of-law rules. The courts of [CITY, STATE] have exclusive jurisdiction, except that if you're a consumer resident in the EU or UK, you may bring proceedings in your own country and mandatory consumer protections in your country of residence continue to apply.
Before starting formal proceedings, please email legal@imbew.com. Most things can be sorted out in a couple of messages.
18Odds and ends
- Changes. We may update these Terms. For material changes we'll email registered users at least 30 days before they take effect. Continuing to use the Service afterwards means you accept them; if you don't, you can cancel and get a pro-rata refund.
- Entire agreement. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between us on this subject.
- Severability. If a provision is unenforceable, the rest survives.
- No waiver. Not enforcing something once doesn't mean we've given up the right to.
- Assignment. You can't transfer these Terms. We may assign them to a successor in a merger or acquisition, on notice to you.
- Force majeure. Neither party is liable for failures caused by events genuinely outside its reasonable control.
- Survival. Sections 4, 12, 14, 15, 17, and 18 survive termination.
